Why Should Fire Alarm Maintenance Be Carried Out?
It is essential that all fire systems are regularly tested and maintained in order to prolong the life of the system and ensure any faults are promptly rectified. A system that is not maintained cannot be guaranteed to protect life and property. Furthermore, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all fire safety equipment be “maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”.
How Often Should Fire Alarms Be Serviced?

All fire alarm systems should be serviced in line with BS5839-1:2017 (or BS5839-6:2013 for domestic and sleeping accommodation). Your fire risk assessment will usually determine whether inspections are needed biannually or quarterly.

We use a unique system that assigns a dedicated asset reference number to every device on your fire alarm system. This allows us to log exactly which components have been tested during each service visit, ensuring full compliance and simplifying your weekly testing routines. It also makes asset tracking easier across larger or multi-site setups. If needed, we’re happy to send you a complete, up-to-date asset list for your site - just let us know how you'd like to receive it.
24 Hour Call Out Response
We offer a 24-hour, 365-day callout service — with a target 3-hour response time for urgent fire alarm faults. Most issues are repaired on the first visit to avoid unnecessary return costs.
In fact, 80% of minor faults (including false alarms or “stuck in FIRE” mode) are resolved over the phone, free of charge.
You’ll only be charged if we physically attend site – advice is always free.
Fire Alarm Service Agreements
Thor Fire Ltd offer Service Agreements for fire alarm servicing & testing to take the hassle away from you. Once the Service Agreement is in place, we will contact you each time a service visit is due to be carried out to arrange a convenient time to attend.
